At 6,342 meters above sea level, located within the Lauca National Park (a biosphere reserve) just north of Lake Chungará, it is the highest mountain in the region, posing a formidable challenge to mountaineers who love high peaks. This volcano is part of the Payachatas mountain range and its name comes from the Aymara word "place of parinas" (a bird of prey), referring to the birds that inhabit this area.
