Arica and Parinacota Region, Putre Commune
This high plateau lake is located at 4,500 meters above sea level, within Lauca National Park. It covers an area of 21.5 km² and has a maximum depth of between 30 and 35 meters. It is surrounded by large snow-capped volcanoes, such as Parinacota, Pomerape, and Guallatire, as well as other lagoons and wetlands. It is home to more than 130 species of fauna, including the vicuña, alpaca, llama, puma, fox, and vizcacha, as well as birds such as the Chilean flamingo, the rhea, the Puna partridge, the giant tagua, and the imposing Andean condor.
